Douglas Neil Perry of Pembroke, former resident of New Bedford, died May 15, 2012. Born in Rockland, Me, May 24, 1925, he attended Rockland public schools, class of 1943. He was a graduate of Oberlin College, Music and Economics, class of 1946. He served as Staff Sergeant in United States Army as a psychiatric social worker 1946-1947. He was a Union representative for 40 years for the United Radio and Machine Workers Union of America (UE). He created the James Library Center for the Arts in Norwell, Ma, a cultural venue that continues to draw many distinguished artists and performers from the Greater Boston Area. He was a member of the First Parish Norwell Unitarian Universalist, Norwell, Ma.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Vivian Cordeiro Perry, two daughters, Deborah Palmer of Utica, NY and Rachel Steele of Kingston, MA, six grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
Private burial in the Pillsbury family plot at the Achorn Cemetery, Rockland, Me.
