Dr. Arthur (Art) Lage of Marshfield MA and Phillips ME died on July 30, 2026, at age 82, after a short illness with cancer. He leaves his loving wife Susan Carestia, son Christopher Lage and wife Jennifer Long, grandchildren Rowan and Cedar Lage, and Stephanie Lage-Lichko; stepdaughter Andrea Hunt and husband William Hunt, grandson Billy; stepson Christopher Collura; brothers Neal and Craig Lage, and late brother Gary Lage; sister-in-laws Theresa and Sheila Lage; niece Courtney Lage ; nephews Donald and Aaron Lage, and late wife Michelle Lage. He was the son of the late Donald Lage and Marjorie Kunkel of Aurora, IL. Art was an avid naturalist, hiker, conservationist, reader, kayaker, explorer and educator. He worked in private practice as a DVM, DACVIM and later joined the faculty at Harvard University where he was the Director of the Harvard Center for Animal Resources and Comparative Medicine. At Harvard Medical School he was an Associate Professor of Surgery. He was a well known expert in renal physiology pioneering in Urological surgery procedures. He was the president and chairman of the Board of regents of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, recipient of the distinguished service award from the ACVIM, and Stange Award for Meritorious Service by Iowa State. A private service will be held in ME. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Art's memory to High Peaks Alliance, protecting Maine’s High Peaks region, where Art was a board member.
