Edward A. Straughn, of Marshfield, MA passed away peacefully on May 23, 2026 at Mass General Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Eddie was born in Boston on April 12, 1957. He was raised in the former projects of ‘German town’ Quincy, he attended Quincy Vo-Tech High School, and met the love of his life and wife, while living in Quincy.
By night, he dedicated 35 years to the MBTA, working most of them as a general foreman of track maintenance for the red line. By day, he operated an independent painting and carpentry business where he employed his sons and many of their friends.
Eddie’s accomplishments were measured by the impact and influence he had on others. MBTA colleagues knew him as hard, but fair. A boss that expected everyone to work hard and smart or to ‘clock out and go home!’ Homeowners found an equitable cost, an honest and transparent process and an open set of ears to talk about projects or life in general. Countless young softball, baseball, and hockey players developed confidence and skills under his equal tutelage, knowing their coach encouraged and allowed all players to play and try any and all positions.
Although he was a man of many titles, he was most proud to be called ‘honey,’ ‘Dad’ and ‘Chief’ as a man that worked and lived for his family. A devoted husband, he is survived by his wife of 44 years Christine Straughn. He leaves behind his children Kellie and Carlos Gomez; Timmy and Megan Straughn; Teddie and Olivia Straughn; Brian and Mary Straughn; and his cherished grandchildren Isabella, Evan, Lili, Nora, Sky, Connor, Summer, Emma and Sloane; sister Roberta Forte; brothers and sisters-in-law, who were cherished as his brothers and sisters with whom he held lifelong friendships, Patricia and Neil Donovan; John and Mary Power; Michael and Colleen Power, Suzanne Power; Brian and Joan Power; many beloved nieces, nephews and grand- nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by “Mom and Beav”, Mary and John Power; brother Frank Straughn; and brother-in-law James Power.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Eddie’s wake on Wednesday May 27th from 4-7pm at the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 1 Summer Street, Cohasset and the Funeral services on Thursday May 28th at 10:30am at St. Anthony’s of Padua Catholic Church, 10 Summer Street, Cohasset.
