Edward Thomas "Ed" Tedeschi, age 80 , of Hingham and Hull, formerly of Cohasset, went home to the Lord on April 13, 2012, surrounded by his family and friends after a courageous battle with mesothelioma. He was born on April 12, 1932 in Framingham to the late Edward Thomas and Elizabeth (Murphy) Tedeschi. He was the beloved husband of Mary Lou (Treanor) Tedeschi and the loving father of six children: Michael McDermott and his wife Susan of Westchester, CA, David B. Tedeschi of Canton, John K. Tedeschi and his wife Susan of Scituate, Sherin E. Tedeschi of Boulder, CO, Alise Marie Burbridge and her husband, Richard of Hingham, and the late Edward Tedeschi III. He was the loving "Pops" to Meghan and Shannon McDermott, Michelle, Brendan, Jeremy, Elizabeth, and Christopher Tedeschi, and Jessica and Nicole Burbridge and "Great Pops" to Felicity Tedeschi. He is also survived by his loving sister, Anne Shepherd of Irvington, NY and sister-in-law, Kathleen Lewis and her husband Cornelius of Ft. Myers, FL. Loving uncle of many devoted nieces and nephews. He also left many wonderful cousins, friends, and the love and support of his church family.
Ed graduated from St. Sebastian's in 1950 and received a full NROTC scholarship to Tufts Univ., graduating and received his Naval Commission as a LT. JG in 1954. He served proudly as chief engineer on the USS Smalley. He loved his country and the opportunity to see the world, visiting 62 nations. After leaving the Navy, he worked in the private sector designing large steerable antennas and later oil spill pollution control equipment. He had several patents in his name. His career allowed him further travel and he was welcomed into the homes and hearts of his customers worldwide. His interests were many and unending, including loving God and his family, driving his backhoe, singing in the choir for almost 40 years, renovating his homes and gardens, mountain climbing, sailing with the "Jolly Boys", travel, the St. Mary's Men Group, classical music and his cat Fritz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 10 am in St. Ann's Church at St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, 208 Samoset Ave., Hull, MA. 02045. Visiting hours Friday, April 20 from 4-8 pm in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 1 Summer St. (across from St. Anthony Church), Cohasset. Interment on Monday, April 23, 2012 at V.A. Mass. National Cemetery, Bourne.
