Elizabeth C. "Betty" (Callahan) Kelleher, age 77, of Norwell, formerly of Brighton, Weymouth, and Needham passed away on Sept. 4, 2013 peacefully at home surrounded by her devoted family after a long struggle with A.L.S. Adored wife of 53 years to M. David Kelleher, MD. Daughter of the late Theresa Callahan and fallen Boston Police Officer Francis B. Callahan. Loving mother of Lisa D. Kelleher and David J. Hamblen of Marshfield, Mark D. Kelleher of Boulder, Co., Dr. Heather A. Izanec and husband Peter of Pepper Pike, OH., Siobhan Kelleher and husband Robert Torres of Boston, and Judith K. Davis and husband Joseph of Wrentham. Sister of the late Mary Pratt of Weymouth. Grandmother of Lauren E. Izanec, Katherine A. Izanec, Eliot J. Davis, Benjamin Callahan Davis.

Starting from when her beloved husband David attended medical school and continuing while raising her five well-loved children, Betty attended and received her B.A. from Harvard University.  An avid wildflower aficionado, she then received her degree in Native Plant Studies from the New England Wildflower Society. She continued to study at Harvard after receiving her degree, in between reading every mystery available, knitting, sewing and weaving many beautiful things for herself and her family. She touched deeply the lives of everyone she met, including among other pets, her beloved dog, Biscuit.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, Sept. 9, 2013 at 11 am in St. Paul's Church, North St., Hingham Square. Visiting hours on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013 from 1-5 pm in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 30 Central St. (off Rt. 123, near State Police Barracks), Norwell Center. Interment St. Paul Cemetery, Hingham. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Betty may be made to the A.L.S. Society, 315 Norwood Park South, 1st Floor, Norwood, MA 02062 or to Little Sisters of the Poor, 186 Highland Ave, Somerville, MA 02143.
