Elizabeth M. "Butty" (Svagzdys) Boland, age 90, of Hanover, formerly of Norwell, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025 after a courageous battle with ALS. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas J. Boland, Jr. and the loving mother of Susan E. Boland of Manhattan, Thomas J. Boland, III of Los Angeles, and Michael J. Boland and his wife Tracy A. of Hanover, MA.  She is also survived by two granddaughters, Alexandra Q. and Clio G. Boland of Manhattan, whom she adored and showered with affection.

Butty attended Brockton High School and became a registered nurse after graduating from the Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing.  Later in life, while she was still working, she earned a BA in English from Bridgewater State University. Being a nurse was her calling.  She was kind, generous, caring, and empathetic and brought those qualities to work with her every day. She worked for decades at South Shore Hospital, where she made a great many friends, several of whom recently took care of her when she was sick.

Butty loved to laugh, and her laughter was infectious. For her, it truly was the best medicine.  She also enjoyed gardening, rug making, yoga and feeling the warmth of the sun on her face. She was a devoted Catholic, and her belief in a higher power gave her a lifelong sense of hope and peace.

Butty's life will be celebrated on Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 30 Central Street, Norwell followed by a service at 1 p.m. in the funeral home.
