Ethel M. (Barthelmess) McLean, age 88, of Norwell, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2012 at the Life Care Center of the South Shore in Scituate. Mrs. McLean was born and raised in Malden, MA. She was the daughter of the late Frederick W. and Emily L. Barthelmess of Malden and lived most of her married life in Hingham and Norwell, later moving to Hanover, where she had many dear friends at the Cardinal Cushing Center for Elderly Housing. Ethel graduated from Malden Catholic High School and Burdett School of Business. Ethel was proud to call the Life Care Center of the South Shore her home and loved sitting by the door greeting each of the visitors with her beautiful smile.

Ethel was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother; her family always came first. She was loved by her late husband, Austin C. McLean and was cherished by her daughter, Beverly A. (McLean) Henderson and her son-in-law, James W. Henderson of Norwell. Her two grandchildren, Steven J. Henderson and Jennifer E. Henderson, were the sunlight in her life. From the moment "Nan" saw each of them, she was so very proud of their accomplishments. She was the devoted sister of the late Robert Barthelmess and his wife, Marie of Malden and the late Pauline LaPointe, William Barthelmess, and Frederick Barthelmess. She was the sister-in-law of Marge McLean of Duxbury and the late Richard J. McLean. Ethel is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 9 am in St. Mary of the Scared Heart, 392 Hanover St., Hanover, MA. 02339. Visiting hours omitted. Interment Private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ethel's memory may be made to Dottie Cabozzi, Activity Dept. at Life Care Center, 309 Driftway, Scituate, MA. 02066.
