Eugenia B. Syrmopoulos, 95, of Kingston, MA quietly passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2015. Formerly of Cohasset & Lowell, MA, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Delia (Avrocoarn) Backas, and was raised in the Laganas family of Lowell. She was the beloved wife of the late Demosthenes Syrmopoulos. Loving mother of Dyanne Moeller and her husband Mark, and cherished grandmother of Matthew, all from Kingston. She graduated Lowell High School, attended secretarial school and employed at General Electric and Hitchcock Shoes. Jeanne was passionate in her endeavors on life, with family, friends, and religion. She was one of the three founders of the Nativity-Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Cohasset. She was an active member of many organizations and fundraisers. She was past president of the Philoptochos Society, and the Garden Club of Cohasset, winning first prizes in floral arrangements. She was also active in the Cohasset Historical Society. An avid painter and a love of the ocean rendered many seascape canvases. She graciously entertained and delighted in sharing her views, especially while needlepointing with the stitching club. Jeanne is survived by her sister-in-law Fotine Syrmopoulos, her nephews Harry Backas, Steven Syrmopoulos, Chris Routsis, Constantine Laganas, nieces Connie Ballinger, Robin Paulus, Toni Syrmopoulos, and many dear cousins, grand nephews and grand nieces. She was predeceased by her brother Chris Backas and wife Betty, and sister-in-law to Theodore and Alice Syrmopoulos, Georgia Soteropoulos, Maria Routsis, aunt to Steven Backas. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to The Nativity-Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 811 Jerusalem Road, Cohassett, MA 02025. Visiting from 10:30 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at the Nativity-Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 811 Jerusalem Road, Cohasset, MA.
