Evelyn M Rezendes, 92, of Plymouth MA passed away on July 13th at Beth Israel Hospital in Plymouth surrounded by her family, following a brief illness.
Evelyn was born in Fall River, MA to Margaret Marsden Bettencourt and Joseph “Mac” Bettencourt of Fall River.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 74 years, Joseph Rezendes of Plymouth along with her sister Mae Simonetti of Tiverton RI, brother-in-law Everett Rezendes & family of Michigan and daughters-in-law Kathleen Rezendes of Scituate MA and Anne Marie Rezendes of Tiverton RI, as well as 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her three children, Michael Rezendes of Scituate MA, Kathleen Pimental of New Smyrna FL and Kenneth Rezendes of Tiverton RI as well as her siblings Dolores Silvia, Joeseph Bettencourt Jr. and Cecelia Arruda, all of Fall River.
She was the proprietress of Evelyn’s Beauty Salon in Fall River for 20 years. She loved playing and watching tennis, preparing meals inspired by the Food Network, playing Uno with her grandchildren and traveling the world with her family. She had an affinity for African culture and British traditions especially the ceremonial Changing the Guard at Buckingham Palace. Evelyn and her husband Joe spent 30 years in Lakeland and Port Orange, FL. She will be remembered as a loving wife, adoring mother, cherished grandmother and great-grandmother and a woman of strong will, grace, sharp wit and unbridled warmth. Her greatest joy was caring for and being surrounded by her family.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Tuesday August 4th, 2026 at St. Mary of the Nativity church on Kent Street in Scituate, MA followed by a reception for family and friends at the St. Mary’s Parish Center.
Burial will take place privately at a future date.
