Gary L. Vitty, age 66, of Scituate, passed away on Sept. 17, 2015 after a long illness. Beloved son of the late Theodore and Alice Vitty. Mr. Vitty was born in Stockbridge, MA and graduated from Norwich University with a degree in Government in 1971. He entered the US Army and served in the 1542 Infantry as the commanding officer. He retired from the US Army after over three decades of service and received numerous medals and awards, including the National Defense Service Medal. He was also retired from the teamsters as an iron worker and was active in the Scituate American Legion.

Gary is survived by his step-daughter, Shannon Sullivan and two grandchildren, Adrianna and Malachy Carr.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 10 am in St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent St., Scituate, MA. Visiting hour Wednesday, Sept. 23 from 5-8 pm in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 30 Central St. (off Rt 123, near State Police Barracks), Norwell Center. Interment Private. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Gary may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, Wounded Warrior Project
