George Burghall Watts, Jr. of Scituate, MA died May 14th, 2024. Beloved Husband of Claire B. Watts. Devoted father of George Burghall Watts, III and his Wife Anne Cowie Watts of Kennebunk, ME, and Jennifer Watts Rodiger and her husband Albert Rodiger of Boston, MA. Loving Grandfather to George Burghall Watts of Boston, MA and his wife Laura Jackson, Joy Elisabeth Watts of Brooklyn NY, Malcolm Barron Watts of Los Angeles, CA and Oliver Kirkpatrick Watts of Burlington, VT, A. Samuel A. Rodiger of Boston, MA and Nathaniel Watts Rodiger of Cambridge, MA. George is survived by his brothers Peter Morrell Watts of Largo, FL, and Daniel Morrell Watts and his wife Carol Franklin Watts of Wiscasset, ME, as well as many nieces and nephews. His sister Patrica Holmes Watts pre-deceased him.

George was born on May 4, 1936, son of George Burghall Watts and Novella Jennings Morrell. He spent his childhood in Old Greenwich, CT. Growing up George enjoyed spending his summers at his family's beach house in Clinton, CT, returning there later in life to nearby Guildford, CT to raise his family.

George attended St. George's School in Newport, RI before attending Brown University, and the University of Bridgeport. George's skill with languages led him to serve in the United States Army Security Agency during the cold war as a Russian linguist interpreting intelligence communication. Later, George enjoyed a lengthy career as a wealth manager with five New England banks, ultimately retiring from the predecessor bank to the current Bank of America.

George had a life-long passion for boats and the sea resulting in over 70 years of cruising adventures with his family and many successes as a competitive sailor out of the Duck Island Yacht Club in Clinton, CT, Sachem's Head Yacht Cub in Guilford, CT, and Cohasset Yacht Club, Cohasset, MA.

George had a passion for helping organizations he believed in, enthusiastically helping to raise funds for St. George's, serving as a trustee of St. Stephen's Church in Cohasset, MA and serving as President of the Boston Port and Seaman's Aid Society, the parent organization of the Mariner's House, a lodging facility in the North End of Boston for seamen in need of lodging.

Friends & Family are respectfully invited to St. Stephen's Church in Cohasset, MA for a 'celebration of life' at 11am on May 24th.
