Gerald F. Schindler, age 83, of Scituate, passed away suddenly on Friday, June 21, 2013 at his home. Beloved husband of the late Barbara (Horne) Schindler and the devoted father of Gerald F. Schindler and wife Maureen of Norwell, Donald Schindler of Scituate, Jeanne Marie Sullivan and husband Kevin of Scituate, John Schindler and wife AnnMarie of Marshfield, Paul Schindler and wife Charrette of Norwell. Adored grandfather "Papa" of Jonathon, Matthew, and Katelyn Schindler of Marshfield, Jillian Sullivan of Scituate, Gerald F. Jr, Nicole, and Brian Schindler of Norwell, Evan, Hannah, and Barbara Schindler of Norwell. Brother of Donald Schindler of Florida, Eileen Norris of Norton and the late Paul Schindler, James Baker, Marie Schindler, Madelyn Flynn, and Gertrude Nixon.
Mr. Schindler was a veteran of The Korean War, serving in the US Army. He was a member of the Exclusive Fraternity of Honor The Chosin Few, Korea 1950-1951. He worked 35 years for the US Postal Service and upon retirement he worked for the Archdiocese of Boston and currently at Holy Family Church, Rockland. He was an active parishioner at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, Scituate. He truly loved his home and took great pride in his many manicured gardens and projects. Mr. Schindler greatly loved his family, spending time with his grandchildren and he was always there for everyone. He will be dearly missed by all whose lives he touched.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at 10 am in St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent St., Scituate Harbor. Visiting hours on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 from 4-8 pm in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 30 Central St. (off Rt. 123, near State Police Barracks), Norwell Center. Interment New. St. Mary's Cemetery, Scituate. If desired, donations to honor Mr. Schindler may be made to Holy Family Church, Rockland.
