IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Henry D.
Tallman, Jr.
January 24, 1947 – May 14, 2025
Henry Dickie Tallman, Jr., of Marshfield, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at his home, Finale Farm, on May 14, 2025. He was 78 years old. Born in Charleston, Henry spent his early years exploring the woods of West Virginia and entertaining friends at their mountain camp, Toad Hall. In the summer, he took his enthusiasm for friendship, family, and the outdoors to West Chop, Martha's Vineyard where he continued to create memories on the bluff of the Vineyard Sound. Although there was a difference in landscape, Henry's love for spending time with friends and family never wavered.
After attending Kentucky Military Institute and Morris Harvey College, he continued his passion for entertaining others and honed his culinary craft at the Culinary Institute of America, launching a career in the hospitality industry.
In 1975, Henry married the love of his life, Jill, and together they started a family on the South Shore of Massachusetts. There they raised their three daughters, Kirk, Bess, and Colby, in Norwell before moving across the North River to Marshfield. More than just a father, he was a constant source of strength, guidance, and unwavering support for his family. He was Jill and the girls' number one fan!
His warmth, generosity, enthusiasm for sports, and zest for life were infectious, enriching the lives of all who knew him. This was especially evident in his deep devotion to his daughters and sons-in-law, Ted, Jason, and Kyle, whom he supported unfailingly. His joy as a grandfather ("Hank") to James, Grace, Tucker, Alice, Nell, Cece, and Wyatt was a testament to his loving nature.
He found joy in the simplest things: driving with the wind in his hair, the hunt for sea glass (glassin'), and a good breakfast on Sunday mornings. His passions were many and eclectic, ranging from sailing off the Vineyard to a spirited tennis and squash match, the loyalty of his standard poodles, beach music, the charm of Bermuda, and a Mount Gay and tonic with lime; even a brisk outdoor shower to start the day.
Henry will be deeply missed by his wife, his three daughters and their husbands, his grandchildren, and his extended family, including his sisters Lee Tallman and Ruth Tallman, sister-in-law Linda Harris, and his nieces, Kate and Caroline, who all held him dear. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
His family asks that you keep his legacy alive by finding love and laughter in his memory.
A celebration of life will take place this summer.
