Obituary

Hermon James Maynard Sr., Longtime Cohasset resident, died on Wednesday, April 13th at the age of 85. He was the son of Walter James Maynard and Bertha Souther. A dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he loved spending time with his family on Pond Hill. His favorite pastimes included boating, hunting and fishing. He had a keen interest in American history and a weakness for ice cream sundaes.

Born in 1926 on Beechwood Street in Cohasset, Hermon graduated from Cohasset High School in 1946. He attended Bryant and Stratton College, where he met his life long love, Barbara Stevenson of Watertown. Founder and owner of Maynard Fire Apparatus, he worked for more than 25 years building custom fire engines in Marshfield.

Hermon was a WW II veteran who served in the Navy. He was a member of the Konohassett Masonic Lodge and a call member of the Cohasset Fire Dept. for nearly 30 years.

He is survived by his five children, Linda Maynard, Hermon Maynard Jr., Susan Denoncourt, Steven Maynard and Bruce Maynard. He had nine grandchildren: Jessica Hansen, Nathaniel Maynard, Jake Maynard, Hannah Maynard, Steven Maynard Jr., Amanda Maynard, Daniel Maynard, Brian Denoncourt and Sara Denoncourt. Hermon has four great- grandchildren, Cate, Abby, Anna and Colby. He is pre- deceased by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Louise Stevenson.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, you spend time with your family and go out for an ice cream sundae.

Service Information

A Memorial Service in Hermon's memory will be celebrated on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 3 pm in the Second Congregational Church, 43 Highland Ave., Cohasset Commons, 02025.

A Private Graveside Service will be held Saturday, April 16, 2011 in Woodside Cemetery, Cohasset.
