Hugh P. McAvenia, age 73, of Scituate, died peacefully at home with family on Dec. 22, 2010. Hugh worked for Paul Young Auto in Scituate as well as the Weymouth Service Center. He was a Police Officer for the Town of Scituate for many years. Hugh was a graduate of Scituate High School, Class of 1955.
Hugh was the beloved husband of Nancy (DeMello) and the father of Beth Vance, Maryanne, Gail, Carol, George McAvenia, and Hugh McAvenia Jr., and the step-father of Doreen Dooner, Daniel Dooner, Donald Dooner, and Douglas Dooner. Hugh was the brother of Harold McAvenia.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at 11 am in the Union Mission Chapel, Old Oaken Bucket Rd., Scituate.
