Obituary

Isabel "Sibby" Blackburn, 62, of Cohasset MA passed away on August 15, 2024 at The Cordwainer in Norwell, MA after an almost decade-long struggle with Alzheimer's. Her calm perseverance, determination, unceasing sense of humor and sheer bravery throughout this journey was astonishing to everyone who knew her.

Born in Washington D.C. in 1961, Sibby grew up in New York City, attended the Spence School and Nightingale School, and spent many summers in Westhampton, Long Island and Camp Arcadia in Maine.  After studying in Spain, where she developed a lifelong love of Spanish and Spanish culture, and graduating from New York University, she moved to Boston, MA where she worked in real estate banking and finance. Eventually, she met her husband, Chris Blackburn and left the finance industry to raise her family in the beautiful coastal town of Cohasset, MA.  She is survived by her much-adored family: Chris, her husband of nearly 30 years and their four children: Madeline, Olivia, Graham and Lily.  She is also survived by her parents, Lawrence Newman and Ruth Bruun, her brothers Thomas Newman, Timothy Newman, Christian Bruun, stepbrothers Peter Bruun and Eric Bruun, and by a large extended family. Sibby was devoted to all of her family and friends and to her many dogs and other exotic pets from her ever-changing pet menagerie.

During her entire life, Sibby showed courage and remarkable resilience coupled with an irreverence and sense of humor that enlivened every interaction. Nothing pleased her more than a lively conversation with good company, some good-natured teasing - and watching reruns of I Love Lucy. Her smile was genuine and her laugh infectious. She was both loyal and practical as a friend, wife and parent; neither was she easily deterred or fooled. Her happiest years were with her husband Chris and their children. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Sibby's honor at the Cohasset Lightkeepers Residence on Saturday, October 19, 2024 from 1-4pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association at Brightfocus.org in hopes that a cure can be found.
