Jacqueline Violet Wirth

Jacqueline “Jackie” Wirth was born in Quincy, Massachusetts, and spent part of her childhood in York Harbor, Maine, where her father worked at the Kittery Naval Shipyard. The ocean shaped her early years and remained a lifelong love. After the loss of her brother Paul at a young age, her family returned to North Weymouth.

A 1946 graduate of Weymouth High School, Jackie had hoped to attend art school, but instead began working in Boston, including positions at Factory Mutual, Armstrong Cork, and Procter and Gamble. She formed lasting friendships and carried her creativity with her throughout her life.

Jackie was known for her seascape paintings inspired by the New England coastline. She sold her work at art shows and shops throughout the region and continued painting up until her passing. Being at her easel, brush in hand, capturing the light and movement of the sea, was where she felt most at peace. She also loved playing the piano by ear, filling her home with music. A devoted Frank Sinatra fan, she often smiled when recalling the time she and her fellow bobby-soxer friends skipped school to see him perform in Boston.

She met her husband Robert while out dancing, and together they built their life in North Weymouth, Norwell, Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and eventually Cohasset. In Cohasset, Jackie found deep happiness. She swam regularly at Sandy Beach and the Cohasset Town Pool, sailed her beloved Mini Fish in and out of Cohasset and Hingham Harbors, and was a proud member of the Cohasset Sailing Club. She also had a lifelong love of animals, especially cats.

Jackie was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and her eldest son, Robert. She is survived by her sons Stephen and James; her daughter-in-law Maureen, wife of James; her daughter-in-law Debora, wife of Robert; and her grandchildren James and Audrey, children of James and Maureen; Nicholas, Alison, and Kate, children of Robert and Debora; and her great-granddaughter Kira, daughter of Nicholas and his wife, Cynthia.

She will be remembered for her warmth, her love of the ocean, and above all, for her painting, which brought her great joy throughout her life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jackie’s memory to the Scituate Animal Shelter in Scituate, Massachusetts at scituateanimalshelter.org
