James W. Doran

James Walter Doran, age 61, of Norwell, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loving family on September 17, 2026, at 11:57 p.m. at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington, Massachusetts.

Born on April 4, 1965, in Norwood, Massachusetts, James was a lifelong Massachusetts resident whose adventurous spirit, mechanical talent, and gift for conversation left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He graduated from Norwell High School in 1983 and went on to build a successful career as a pipefitter before retirement.

Never one to stay idle, James recently embarked on a new venture refurbishing and selling Pontiac Trans Am engines, combining his lifelong passion for mechanics with his entrepreneurial spirit. Few things brought him more satisfaction than bringing an engine back to life and sharing his knowledge with fellow enthusiasts.

James traveled extensively throughout his life, both for work and pleasure, embracing new experiences and meeting people wherever his journeys took him. He had a remarkable curiosity about the world and a deep appreciation for rare objects, artifacts, and history. His interests were as diverse as they were passionate. He loved building engines, riding and constructing motorcycles, skeet shooting, music, to laugh, and engaging in thoughtful and interesting conversations. Friends and family will remember him for his wit, his stories, and his ability to make any gathering memorable.

Above all, James treasured the relationships he built throughout his life. He is survived by his loving parents, Richard and Myra Doran of Norwell, Massachusetts; his brother, John Doran and his wife April of Pembroke, Massachusetts; his sister, Lisa Hopkins and her husband Shane Hopkins of Richmond, Rhode Island; and his beloved fiancée, Emilie Kuhl of Norwell, Massachusetts. He also leaves behind many extended family members, friends, colleagues, and fellow Pontiac enthusiasts who will deeply miss his presence.

James lived life on his own terms, with curiosity, determination, and an unwavering appreciation for the people and pursuits he loved. His memory will live on in the stories shared by those who knew him, the roads traveled, the machines he built, and the lives he touched.

He will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026 from 10-12pm at the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home-30 Central Street, NORWELL, MA. Funeral Service to immediate follow in the funeral home at 12PM. Relatives and friends invited to attend.

Interment will be private.
