James J. Kilcoyne, age 85, of Scituate, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2014. Born May 27, 1929 in Somerville, MA.   When he was 5 years old, his family moved to Randolph, MA where he spent his childhood and later attended Stetson High School serving as Senior Class President as well as the captain of the football team. It was love at first sight when he met his future wife Dorothy at a dance at Boston College.  In September of 1949 they married, and moved to Scituate, MA to start a family and to begin his career.  In his early years, he worked for JP Manning, earning top honors as a salesman.  In 1951, he joined the Scituate Police Force where he served as a sergeant and patrol officer until, 1969 when he became the full time prosecutor for the Town of Scituate.   Doing the Town's work at Hingham District Court, he quickly earned the respect of his peers, police officers, attorneys and judges with his incredible knowledge of the law as well as his work and moral ethics.  During his tenure he was very proud to have tried and won cases against many outstanding attorneys.  It was not long before Jim's knowledge of criminal law and his legal acumen caught the attention of Izzy Rosenblum, Chief Magistrate at the Hingham District Court and in 1972 Jim was asked to join the Court's Clerks Office.

Over the next 20 years, Jim served with distinction and honor alongside Judges Tampkin, Lombardo, Ware and Moriarty. Simultaneous to his time on the police force and work at the court, Jim attended Stonehill College, majoring in Criminal Law where he won the Gold Medal Award for academic excellence and graduated Suma Cum Laude.  In 1993 Jim retired from his legal career to spend more time with his wife Dorothy, on his faith, traveling, reading and to pursue his other passions such as genealogy, photography and computers.

Jim is survived by his wife Dorothy Kilcoyne and four children, Kara Erdman and Annmarie Feeney of Mattapoisett, James Kilcoyne, Jr. of Marshfield and John Kilcoyne of San Diego as well as seven grandchildren, Ryan and Brendan Feeney, Gretchen Erdman,  Shane, Cailene and Kate Kilcoyne and Angelina Kilcoyne, as well as four great grandchildren.
