Jerome P. "Red" MacDonald, age 85, of Scituate, formerly of Brighton, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2013. Beloved husband of the late Anne M. (Grattan), Red was the son of the late Harriette (Farrington) MacDonald. He was the devoted father of Jerome "Jerry" MacDonald and wife, Barbara of Marshfield, and MaryAnn McGreal and husband, Kevin of Hanson. Mr. MacDonald was the adoring grandfather of Jerome "Sonny", Carly and Scott MacDonald of Marshfield, and Madison and Michael McGreal of Hanson. Red was the brother of Patricia Patterson of Scituate and the late Douglas MacDonald.
Red was a retired business agent and manager for the Pile Drivers and Divers, Local 56, for 20 years. Mr. MacDonald had 59 years service to the Local 56. He was also a past President of the Mass. State Council of Carpenters. Red was a longtime member of the Scituate Beach Association, a veteran of the US Navy, and a member of the American Legion Post in Cohasset and V.F.W. in both Scituate and Brighton. Mr. MacDonald was also a past member of the Brighton and Marshfield Elks.
A Funeral from the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, Cohasset on Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 9 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am in St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent St., Scituate Harbor. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 from 4-8 pm in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 1 Summer St. (Across from St. Anthony Church), Cohasset. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery, Scituate. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Red may be made to the Scituate Etrusco Assoc., 1 Common St., Scituate, MA. 02066 or to the American Cancer Society.
