Joan "Joanie" Roberta (Benson) Griffin- age 88, of Norwell, formerly of South Portland, Maine, passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a courageous battle with Chronic Lymphatic Leukemia on February 10, 2013. Joanie was the beloved wife of the late Francis X. Griffin and the devoted mother of Joyce R. Griffin of Taunton and Patricia M. Anderson and husband Kenneth R. of Norwell. She was the adoring grandmother of Elizabeth M. Healy of Raynham, Joseph G. Healy and wife Hilary of Abington, Erik B. Anderson and wife Katherine of Norwell, and Alicia D. Anderson of Boston. She was the great-grandmother of Jocelyn May Healy, Griffin Joseph Healy and Frederick Benson Anderson. She was the sister of the late Robert Benson, Norma Moore, Louise Simmons, Elizabeth Fogg, Stephen Benson, Eugene Benson, and Ruth Benson.  Joanie also leaves many loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and longstanding friendships.

Joanie was the loving matriarch of her family and that family was the center of her life, however, the grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the "Apples of her eye". She took tremendous joy in her home and garden.

A Private Graveside Service will be held at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland, Maine. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Joanie may be made to the Norwell VNA & Hospice, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA. 02061.
