Obituary

Joan M. Trask, 95, of Cohasset, Massachusetts, entered into eternal life on December 29, 2025 at the Pat Roche Hospice House after a brief illness.

Born in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, on November 3, 1930, she was the second child of Henry Mueller and Anne (Nicodemus) Mueller. She was a proud 1948 North Quincy High School graduate and she graduated with honors from Boston University in 1952. After a brief stint in Public Relations for a large retailer, she went to work in Human Resources at the Boston Herald Traveller where she met the love of her life, Harry Trask. They married in 1955 and together raised seven children. As her family grew older, Joan pursued a master's degree in teaching at Bridgewater State College. She went on to serve as a mathematics teacher at Cohasset High School, Blue Hills Regional Vocational Technical High School, and Notre Dame Academy. In retirement, Joan cherished time spent with Harry on bike rides through Wompatuck State Park, trips to the Cape, and countless special occasions with her ever-growing family.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Trask; her brother, John Mueller; her sister, Nancianne Allen; her daughter, Claire Bangs; her grandsons, Lucas Trask and Jason Trask; and her great-grandchild, Noah Baker.

She leaves behind her remaining children: Mark Trask and his wife Janet, Matthew Trask and his life partner Valerie Kolbert, Peter Trask and his wife Lisa, Jeffrey Bangs,  Andrew Trask and his wife Susan, Philip Trask and his fiance Anne-Sophie Gadenne, Sarah Hickey and her husband Charles.

Joan also leaves twenty-one grandchildren: Andrea Trask, Shannon Sorensen, Kelley Tessier, Nathaniel Trask, Joshua Trask, Maxwell Trask, Zachary Trask, Abigale Trask, Jeffrey Bangs Jr, Jennifer Venezia, Justin Trask, Jessica Parks, James Trask, Jon Trask, Julie Trask, Alexander Trask, Calvin Trask, Dylan Trask, Jasmine Trask, Emily Hickey, and Katherine Hickey.

Additionally she leaves behind twenty-one great grandchildren and many friends and loved ones.

Joan was known for her unwavering Catholic faith. A devoted parishioner of Saint Anthony of Padua Church for nearly 70 years, she served her parish in many ways, including as a CCD teacher when her children were young and for many years as a member of the parish choir. She also shared her love of music beyond the parish through service in other community choirs, including the Massasoit Senior Choir.

Joan was an avid and lifelong gardener, cultivating fruits, vegetables, and flowers on the small plot of land she proudly called home. Friends and neighbors were often the lucky beneficiaries of her abundant raspberry patch, as well as her thriving tomato and zucchini plants. In the winters, she turned to fiber arts and kept busy knitting and crocheting many hats, blankets, and scarves. She was also an avid puzzler, keeping her mind sharp with word and number puzzles and then later, when space permitted, she had a table devoted to jigsaw puzzles. Equally passionate about the written word, Joan had a deep love of literature and delighted in thoughtful correspondence with family and acquaintances, sometimes writing in French. Her keen intellect and curiosity remained evident into her final moments, a hallmark of a life deeply engaged with learning, language, and connection.

The family will hold a celebration of life in Bancroft Hall at the Cohasset Lightkeepers Residence on Saturday February 7, 2026 from 1:00 to 5:00pm. Services and interment, private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
