Joan Vinal Turner, age 88, of Marshfield, formerly a longtime resident of Scituate, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2026. Daughter of the late Philip H. and Eleanor (Gasparrelli) Turner. Joan was a graduate of Framingham State College and devoted her life to educating young minds. After years teaching throughout US Army grade schools in Germany and Bermuda, Joan enjoyed a long career teaching in Whitman-Hanson Schools before retiring. With an abundance of talent, she helped decorate several floats in the Rose Bowl Parade and enjoyed working with stain glass, snorkeling, and traveling. Many of these, especially travel, Joan shared with her closest friends, whom she considered family, becoming Auntie Joanie. Those closest to Joan were able to spend time in such places as Italy, Key West, and Disney to name a few.
In addition to her dedication to teaching, Joan was loyal, generous and kind. That generous, kind, gentle spirit was used to volunteer, with others and with cats. She had an innate ability to make friends wherever she went. Those lucky to call Joan friend or Aunt Joan were always in her heart, and she will always remain in theirs.
