JoAnn Haynes Thayer

JoAnn Haynes Thayer, of Cohasset, MA, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2026, surrounded by the people who loved her most.

Born in West Roxbury on October 7, 1934, JoAnn was the youngest of 8 children of Katherine and Edward Lane. She was the last remaining family member. In 1960, she married William (Bill) Haynes, and together they built a home full of love, laughter, deep faith and joy. She is survived by her loving and devoted daughters Hilary Haynes Troia, Lauren Haynes Concannon and Robin Haynes Teague. Predeceased by her oldest daughter Leslie Ann Haynes who passed in 1982. She adored her sons in law John (Jack) Concannon, Michael Troia and Matthew Teague and her precious 8 grandchildren Emily Concannon Jones, Abigail Concannon Fiore, John (Jack) Concannon, Caroline Concannon, Christy Concannon, Justin Troia, William Teague, and Katherine Teague and her four great grandchildren.

Bill passed away far too early in 1997. JoAnn busied herself with higher education, travel and time with family. She was beyond blessed to find love again and married Frederick (Ted) Thayer in 2011. Finding love in the autumn of their lives was truly a blessing for them and for both the Haynes and Thayer families. She is survived by her loving husband Ted, his children Linda Thayer, Jeffrey Thayer, and Diane Thayer Irish. Predeceased by Ted’s daughters Wendy Thayer and Sally Thayer Mailloux.

JoAnn was known for her infectious laughter, quick wit, and talent for being the life of the party. She was a very active member of the Cohasset community where she resided for 44 years. Some of her accomplishments include former president of Cohasset Community Garden Club, Ladies committee member at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Cohasset Historical Society member, and volunteer for senior services. She had a thirst for knowledge taking continuing education courses throughout her thirties and forties until she finally enrolled at Emmanuel College in 1985 receiving her BA a few years later in Sociology and Art History.

JoAnn suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and spent her remaining days at Allerton House in Hingham. Our families are so grateful for the exceptional love and care she received. There were many days she asked her best friend Jesus to take her home. She would often say, “They’re all waiting for me!” We know she is celebrating in heaven with Jesus and her loved ones. Join us in celebrating JoAnn’s beautiful life.
