John F. (Jack) Burke Sr., 83, of Cohasset MA, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2015. Jack was the son of the late Mary Gillow and John Francis Burke, from Brookline, MA. He graduated from Roxbury Latin and joined the U.S. Marines so he could fight for his country in the Korean War. After attending Harvard and MIT, he spent 30 years as an ironworker for Local Union #7 in Boston, proudly working on the Prudential Building and the John Hancock Tower. Jack was a member of The American Legion Post 327 in Mission Hill then joined George H. Mealy Post 118 when he moved from Brookline to Cohasset in 1968. He was the commander of that post for 4 years and began the Christine Burke Scholarship fund and annual clambake event. Jack was predeceased by his wife Constance E. (Connie) Rogers, daughter Christine Burke, and son John F. Burke, Jr. He is survived by his daughters Laurie Kennedy of Hull, MA; Marianne Burke Tembe of Virginia Beach, VA and his sons and daughters in law Joseph and Joanne Burke of Marshfield, MA; and James and Jennifer Burke of Charleston, SC. Jack leaves his grandchildren Michael and Matthew Kennedy, Ian and Connor Tembe, and Shelby and James Michael Burke, two great grandchildren, nieces and nephews Mary Margret Burke, Jennifer Burke Plimton, Matthew Burke, Christopher Burke, Michael Burke; and many loving friends and neighbors.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 23, 2015 at 10 am in St. Anthony Church, 10 Summer St., Cohasset, MA. 02025. Interment private.
