John Young Jr. of Hanson, Massachusetts, husband of the late Evelyn Wakefield Young, died on May 5, 2015 at the age of 93. He was born in 1922 in Edinburgh, Scotland to John Young and Catherine Corstorphine Young.
After moving to New York City and graduating from Newtown High School in Queens, where he was president of his class, John studied engineering, earning a BS at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. He served in the Navy during World War II, working for Sperry Gyroscope in Brooklyn. He subsequently completed an MBA at Harvard Business School and worked in manufacturing in several locations, including as chief engineer at Ford Instrument, until his retirement from TNCO in Whitman, Massachusetts.
John was an accomplished outdoorsman, climbing the Matterhorn in his thirties, and he reveled in the outdoor, athletic, musical and artistic pursuits of his family.
John is survived by his son John Young of Boston, his daughter Charlotte Young of Hanson, his son Andrew Young and his wife Stefanie Scheer and their children Edith and William Young of New York City, his son George Young and his wife Susan Mooney and their daughter Livia Young of New York City, and three nieces. In addition to his wife Evelyn, he is predeceased by his sister Agnes Butcher, his brother George Young, two nieces and a nephew.
