John Walter Sieminski of Scituate, passed away peacefully at home on August 12, 2014. Born on July 14, 1921, the seventh son of eleven boys and the last remaining son of the late Francis and Marcyanna Sieminski of New Kensington, PA.
John was a United States Coast Guard member serving in WWII where he was initially stationed in Scituate to patrol the coastal beaches. After a wartime tour that included duty on the USS Sea Cloud patrolling the North and South Atlantic and an assignment at an airbase in Greenland, John returned to settle permanently in Scituate which he had fallen in love with during his first duty assignment and declared it to be, "heaven on earth". He wooed and married Barbara (Robischeau) of Scituate to whom he remained happily married for the past 66 years.
John held a variety of occupations including working in the Steel industry, fishing out of Plymouth, horticulture, diesel mechanics and operated a couple of gas stations (consecutively) in North Scituate. Upon his retirement he continued to pursue his true passion of gardening, working part time at Kennedy's Country Gardens and finding a special pride and joy in cultivating peonies. John shared his passion with the community often making surprise deliveries of peony bouquets to lucky recipients throughout town with an invitation to, "stop by for a cup of tea" and enjoy his gardens. A lover of antiques, especially old bottles, John could often be found "rescuing" items from the Town landfill or holding yard sales to make room for more rescues. A devoted member of his church, he served on Parish Council until the closing of St. Francis Parish and became a parishioner of St. Anthony's in Cohasset.
He is survived by his cherished wife Barbara (Robischeau) Sieminski of Scituate. His children, Leslie and Al Marino of Scituate, John "Mike" and Melissa Sieminski of Scituate, Mark and Susan Sieminski of Newton, Martha Sieminski of Scituate and his grandchildren, Eric and Sarah Gerfen, Jamie Sieminski and Samantha Sieminski. He is also survived by many of his brothers' children across the country.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, August 18, 2014 from 3-7pm at McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 160 So. Main St Cohasset, MA. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday August 19 at 10 am in St. Anthony's Church 10 Summer St Cohasset.
