Joseph Francis Kunevich
Joseph (Joe) Francis Kunevich, 69, of Abington, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on Sunday, October 4, 2026, on The Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi. He was born in Boston to Anthony and Josephine (Antoniewicz) Kunevich. Joe is survived by his beloved soulmate and love of his life, Carol. He was a proud father to two sons: Sean and his wife, Katie, and Craig and his wife, Amanda, all of Hanover. He adored his six grandchildren: Adrianna, Avery, William, Abby, Eliza, and Harrison. He is also survived by his sisters, Janice McCarthy and Constance (Connie) Wilson both of Braintree, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Joe was predeceased by his parents, Anthony and Josephine Kunevich, and his brother, Steven.
He also leaves behind his dear friend and Angel on earth, Cheryl Butler-Wimpelberg, her husband James, and their son Ryan. Through Cheryl’s selfless gift of a kidney, his family was given seven more precious years together for which they will be forever grateful.
Joe and Carol were married for 45 years and were inseparable. They could be seen walking the Cape Cod Canal, trying a new breakfast spot, and setting sail on a cruise. Their greatest joy was cheering on their sons and then later the six grandchildren at hockey games, soccer matches, dance and cheer competitions, and theatre performances. Whatever the event, Grandpa was always present as their biggest fan.
Joe was a devoted family man and a loyal friend who was always ready to lend a hand whether it was fixing your car, moving, building sheds, decks, plumbing or whatever you asked of him. He was a man of few words but he never needed many. His generosity, love, and willingness to give his time said everything, and he was loved by all who knew him. Joe loved the holidays, especially Christmas, and nothing made him happier than celebrating with his family.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 16, at 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Angels (St. Mary’s) in Hanover, followed by burial at Blue Hills Cemetery in Braintree.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe’s memory to Blood Cancer United https://bloodcancerunited.org/ and the American Kidney Fund https://www.kidneyfund.org/
