IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Judith (Stanley)
Rhodes
December 11, 1945 – April 29, 2024
In loving memory of Judith (Stanley) Rhodes, born on December 11, 1945, and known throughout Scituate as "Nana Judy." With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to an amazing woman whose life was filled with love, resilience, and cherished memories.
Proud to be a fourth generation "townie" of Scituate, Nana Judy carried the legacy of her ancestors with grace. Descended from Captain Fred Stanley, a heroic lifesaver whose bravery saved many lives, she cherished her roots and the deep connections she forged with her beloved town.
But Nana Judy's pride was surpassed only by her love for her family. Widowed at the age of 27, she faced the challenges of single parenthood with strength and determination. Raising four daughters, she worked tirelessly, taking on multiple jobs to provide for her family. Her nine grandchildren were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
She found joy in the simple pleasures of life: Christmas Eve, taking car rides around town, tending to her vegetable garden, marveling at and discussing the power of the weather, and browsing on Facebook and Amazon.
Judy is survived by her four daughters; Deborah Vazza, Kathleen Shawles, Sheila Rhodes-Dow and Leslie Scully and her 9 grandchildren; Madeline, Bridget and Griffin Vazza, Eric, Gregory and Austin Donovan, Cole Rhodes-Dow, Kira and Avery Scully.
She is also survived by a sister Patricia (Stanley) Minnis. Her brother Michael Stanley pre-deceased her.
Judy's health declined over the last couple of years. She was supported by family & dear friends. A special thank you to Mark Donovan, for his on-going support & assistance.
As we raise our glasses to toast the life of Nana Judy with "just a splash" of pinot grigio on ice, let us remember her for the love, laughter, and warmth she brought into our lives. Though she may have left us physically, her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Cheers to you, Nana Judy, may your journey be filled with eternal sunshine and gentle warm breezes.
At Judy's request, services will be private.
