Karen Marie Quirk

Karen (Camino) Quirk, of Marshfield, Massachusetts, formerly of Scituate and Belmont, and originally from Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, quiet strength, unwavering grace, and remarkable resilience.

Karen was the daughter of the late Robert and Eleanor (Casey) Camino and the oldest of their three daughters (Karen, Lin and Maura). She grew up in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, and her happiest childhood summer memories were spent at the Jersey Shore.

After graduating from Gwynedd Mercy College in 1964, Karen met Tom Quirk, a Boston native and Naval officer stationed in Philadelphia. They married in 1967 and began a beautiful partnership that spanned nearly six decades. They settled in Belmont, where they raised their four children and built great memories and traditions with family and friends for thirty-five years.

The Quirk family spent their summers in Scituate, where Karen embraced life by the ocean and created a peaceful retreat for family and friends to enjoy. Their home near Egypt Beach, became the backdrop for countless family memories, and the Scituate Harbor Yacht Club hosted treasured traditions like swimming, playing tennis and boating. In 1999, Karen and Tom made Scituate their permanent home before later moving to Marshfield.

Karen's greatest joy was her family. She had an effortless sense of style and a warmth that made everyone feel welcome. Kind, thoughtful, and genuinely interested in others, Karen formed deep friendships wherever life took her and was cherished by all who knew her.

On April 14, 2000, Karen's life changed forever when she suffered a sudden and devastating brain aneurysm. Through extraordinary determination, years of rehabilitation, and the devoted care and the steadfast support of family and friends, Karen recovered far beyond what many thought possible. She approached every challenge with quiet courage, never complaining and always finding joy in what she was able to do, rather than dwelling on what she had lost.

She delighted in becoming "Mimi" to her eleven grandchildren, whose lives brought her endless happiness. An avid reader with an unfailingly positive outlook, Karen found beauty in the simple moments. The Scituate Harbor Yacht Club remained a special community throughout every stage of her life, being a member since 1980, where she loved cheering on her grandchildren as they swam and competed in tennis tournaments, just as she had done for her own children many years before. She volunteered in the office at Saint Mary's Parish in Scituate and treasured the many deep friendships she enjoyed throughout her life.

During the last year of her life, Karen faced a gradual decline with hospitalizations at South Shore Hospital and stays at Life Care Center of Scituate and the Pat Roche Hospice Home in Hingham. Even in her final months, she met each caregiver, neighbor, and friend with gratitude, kindness, and her characteristic smile and compliments. She enjoyed participating in activities like Bingo, trivia, watching classic movies, listening to live music and often reflected on her life with simple contentment, saying, "I've had a great life" and those who knew her would wholeheartedly agree.

Karen is survived by her husband of 59 years, Tom; and her children, Kristin Barrett and John of Hingham, Casey Eaton and Jerry of Acton, Kara Casten and Sean of Downers Grove, Illinois and Sean Quirk and Tyla of Scituate. She was the proud and loving "Mimi" of Elle and Grace Barrett; Riley, Colin, and Tommy Eaton; Gwen and Audrey Casten; and Maddie, Molly, Emma, and Catie Quirk. She is also survived by her loving sisters, Lin Getz and her husband Jim and Maura Doyle and her Aunt Kathleen (Casey) Jamieson, along with her nieces, a nephew, many cousins, and dear friends. Our lives were made brighter by knowing her.

Karen's life was a beautiful example of love, resilience, gratitude, and quiet grace. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness that will continue to live on in her family and in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during Visiting Hours on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, 4-7 PM at the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 160 South Main Street, Cohasset.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, August 6, 2026 at 10am at St. Mary of the Nativity Church-1 Kent Street, Scituate, MA.

Karen will be interred privately in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
