Leroy K. McKay, age 99, of Norwell, died peacefully on March 10, 2012. Leroy was the beloved husband of the late Myrtle G. (Gauley) and the devoted father of John McKay of Norwell, Raymond McKay of South Glastonbury, CT and Leroy McKay Jr. of Park Ridge, NJ. He was the loving grandfather of Christopher, Benjamin, Scott, and Shawn McKay, Jenny Joseph and Amy Elder, and loving great grandfather of nine great grandchildren.
Leroy McKay was born the youngest of nine and son of John and Kristy (McLeod) McKay in Holbrook, MA. Leroy was a longtime resident of Norwell along with his wife Myrtle (Gauley) McKay. Leroy worked as a self employed carpenter on the South Shore for over 60 years and is well known for his award-winning gardens along with his wife on Washington Street in Norwell.
A Graveside service will be held on Friday, March 16, 2012 at 11:00 am in Washington Street Cemetery, Norwell. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, March 15th from 3-7 pm in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 30 Central St. (off Rt. 123, near State Police Barracks), Norwell Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Myrtle McKay Scholarship, in care of Teri Mallory, Norwell Garden Club Treasurer, 33 Farm Hill Rd. Norwell, MA 02061.
