Obituary

Marcia Cloherty Mulligan, of Norwell, MA passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, January 28, 2023.  Born and raised in Waltham, MA, Marcia was the proud daughter of the late John F. and Rita M (Kelly) Cloherty. Marcia graduated from St. Mary's High School in Waltham in 1963.

It was love at first sight when she met her husband and best friend, the late F. Paul Mulligan, in 1969 at the Buena Vista in San Fransisco. During their 46 years of marriage they shared a passion for traveling, skiing, and boating, spending time and sharing a laugh with life long friends and raising their two daughters.

Marcia showed a devotion for people throughout her career in medicine. For over 50 years she dedicated herself to her patient's care at Massachusetts General Hospital and Newton-Wellesley Hospital as a neurophysiology specialist. She created lifelong friendships with her colleagues.

With eyes as blue as Galway Bay, Marcia was proud of her family's heritage and being 100% Irish. It encouraged her to obtain her Irish citizenship. One of her life's biggest joys was traveling to Lettermore, Ireland to visit with family and friends.

Her belief in the Catholic faith was the foundation for which she lived her life. Marcia dedicated over 50 years of outreach service through St. Helen's Church, Father Bill's, Pine Street Inn, and Saint Anthony's Shrine. Marcia would do anything to help someone in need, whether it be a warm meal, finding them the best medical care or giving a hug. Marcia would do anything for anyone.

Her daughters were her pride and joy. She was their biggest supporter in life, provided them with a first class education and encouraged them to reach for their dreams. If you were to ask her daughters, they would tell you they could hear her cheers throughout their entire rowing race. She was their best friend and always looking forward to their next adventure. There was nothing she wouldn't do for them.

Marcia is survived by her loving daughters Ann of Norwell, MA and Katherine (Mulligan) Hogan, her husband Christopher and three grandchildren Brigid, Sean and Rory of Weymouth, MA. Sister Marian (Cloherty) Parrella, her husband Gary of Waltham, MA and nephews Alex and Kevin Parrella of Waltham, MA.
