Margaret J. Smart of Cohasset, MA died peacefully on September 16 at Harbor House in Hingham, MA. Born on November 1, 1923 in Rumford, ME, she was the daughter of Dr. Henry Peter Johnson and Hazel MacGregor Johnson. She graduated from Oak Grove School, College of William and Mary and Boston University. In 1949, she married William J. Smart after meeting him in the Alumni Office of Boston University, where she worked as an executive secretary. After 32 happy years of marriage, he predeceased her in 1981. "Bud and Peg," as they were affectionately known by friends and family, lived in the Merrymount section of Quincy for nearly 20 years. In 1973, they moved to Cohasset, MA, where Peg was an active member of the community. She volunteered for the Cohasset Public Library, FISH and served as treasurer of the Cohasset Consignment Shop. She was also a member of the Cohasset Garden Club. Peg adored politics, home entertaining and sports, especially her beloved Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
She is survived by her four children: Anne M. and Elaine M. of Arlington, MA; James A. of Seattle, WA; and, Gail Scibelli of Port Washington, NY as well as two grandchildren, Sara and Danny.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 12 at 1:00 PM at the First Parish Church, 23 North Main Street, Cohasset, MA.
