Margaret "Peg" (McNamara) Stoughton, beloved wife of the late Ira B.P. Stoughton, Jr., passed away from lung cancer on Thursday, May 7, 2015. Loving mother to daughter, Susan Gentile and her husband, Daniel; and daughter, Jeanne Stoughton-Quigley, and her late husband Drew Quigley.  Peg is also survived by her grandchildren Daniel Gentile, Jr. and his wife, Trish; Christina Shaw and her husband, Dan: Angela Gentile, Caitlin Quigley, and Rachel Quigley-Truncellito and her husband, Tim Truncellito.  She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Abigail and Joseph Gentile; and Colin and Owen Shaw.  Peg was sister to the late Doris (McNamara) Corrigan and survived by her nieces Virginia, Donna and Victoria and their families.  She also leaves behind her sister-in-law Beverly (Stoughton) Barrett and her nieces, Sarah and Katherine, and nephews, John and Christopher, and their families.

Peg was a lifelong resident of Cohasset and a graduate of Cohasset High School.  She started her working career in banking in Boston and New York.  Peg later became an avid volunteer with Cohasset Schools and PTO, the Cohasset Chapter for the American Red Cross, and an active supporter in town government.  As a leader in ARC, she was integral in developing a Rescue Program, should disaster strike in the waters off of the coast.  Peg oversaw the ARC's swimming program, effecting new programs as well as help implement the concept and reality of Cohasset's town pool.  Peg worked as Assistant Treasurer, as well as served as interim Town Treasurer for Cohasset; later Peg worked in the Clerks Office.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, June 5, 2015 from 10 am to 11:30 am at McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, One Summer Street, Cohasset; followed by a graveside service in Woodside Cemetery and a reception at the Lightkeeper's in Cohasset.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a favorite charity in Peg's memory.
