Maria McClellan (Sumser), age 88, of Cohasset, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2022. Born 1933 in Freiburg Germany. She met James Barry Sr in 1952 while he was in the United States Army, stationed in Germany during the Korean War. Soon after meeting they fell in love and got married. Maria was sponsored to come to America by James' aunt and uncle- Emma and Bob Hayden and proudly became an American Citizen. Their son James Barry Jr was born in 1956. Maria purchased a home in Cohasset in 1958 where she raised her son and entertained her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She remarried in 1974 to the late Robert  McClellan. They lived a full life traveling abroad, dining out, especially frequenting Hugo's. She was a very caring, brutally honest and anextremely generous woman. She had a small business 'Black Forest Imports', she imported German specialty items. She had a talent of jewelry making and sold them to local stores. She was also a talented artist and enjoyed drawing portraits of her family and friends.

She is survived by her son James Barry Jr of Cohasset. 6 grandchildren- Brooke Levy of Carver, Bridget Haglund of Kingston, James Barry lll of Hull, Maggie Barry of Westport, Sydney Barry of Cohasset and Fernand Barry of Cohasset. 5 great-grandchildren Maddix, Alexander, Hunter, Juliana & Kyleigh. Maria was also the stepmother to the late Robert McClellans children. Jonathan, Gwen, Tim, Sam, the late Ian,  Christian and Angela.

Family and Friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, April 28, 2022 from 8:30 am – 10:30 am, followed by a 10:30 am Prayer Service in the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 1 Summer St. (across from St. Anthony Church), Cohasset, MA. 02025. A graveside Service will follow in Woodside Cemetery, Cohasset.
