Marie S. (Scanlon) Flaherty, age 96, of Scituate, passed away on January 20, 2015. Beloved and devoted wife for 46 years of Matthew F. Flaherty, whom she has known for over 58 years. Mrs. Flaherty was the daughter of Joseph and Lilly Marie (Heavey) Scanlon. After graduating with her Degree from Regis College, Class of 1940 and her degree in Social Work from Simmons College, Mrs. Flaherty started working at the Boston City Hospital. Shortly after and because of her excellent work, she was appointed Head of Medical Social Work for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. She would later become an Administrative Assistant, retiring in 1987.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 23, 2015 at 12 noon in St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent St., Scituate Harbor. Visiting hours Thursday, January 22, 2015 from 2-6 pm in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 160 So. Main St. (Across from St. Anthony Church), Cohasset. Interment Mount Benedict Cemetery, Boston.
