Mary Elizabeth Tibbetts, 89, passed away on January 22nd after a brief illness. She was a long-time resident of Scituate, MA prior to retiring to Naples, FL.
Mary was born in South Boston, MA in 1924, the daughter of the late Elizabeth "Lil" J. (Mullen) and Edward J. Carroll. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Richard S. Tibbetts.

Mary is survived by her four sons, Joseph V. Tibbetts and his wife Terry, Richard S. Tibbetts, Jr. and his wife Edith, Edward C. Tibbetts and his wife Sarah all of Scituate, and Peter H. Tibbetts and his wife Fiona of Dublin, NH; one granddaughter; ten grandsons; one great granddaughter; and four great grandsons.  Also survived by her cousin, John H. Duffy, Jr. of Naples, FL.

She grew up in South Boston and West Roxbury, MA and summered in Harwichport, MA. Mrs. Tibbetts is a graduate Notre Dame Academy, class of 1941, and Katharine Gibbs School. Mrs. Tibbetts moved to Scituate and together with her husband, Dick, founded Scituate Associates, Inc., a real estate development company.  They built more than 100 homes in Scituate and other south shore towns.  Mrs. Tibbetts was a highly successful Realtor in Scituate and Cohasset until retiring in 2008.

Mrs. Tibbetts was a member of Scituate Harbor Yacht Club and Royal Palm Country Club, Naples, FL.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 27, 2014 at 10 am in St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Front Street, Scituate Harbor, MA. Visiting hours Sunday, January  26, 2014 from 2-6 pm in the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 1 Summer St. (across from St. Anthony Church), Cohasset. Interment Union Cemetery, Meeting House Lane, Scituate, MA. In lieu of flowers gifts in her memory may be made to Norwell Visiting Nurses Association and Hospice, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA 02061.
