Mary C. (Crilly) Owen, of Hingham, passed away on July 16, 2011 with her loving daughter at her side, she was 92. Born and raised in Philadelphia where she served as a "Rosie the Riveter" welder during World War Two. She later moved and raised a family in Louisiana and Arkansas. During a multifaceted career, Mary worked as an insurance agent, in pharmaceutical sales, as a certified property manager, and taught Instrument Flight Simulation to US Army student pilots at the Institute Doss Aviation, Ft. Rucker, AL all before becoming chef and owner of The Lobby Restaurant in Enterprise, AL. Her cooking talents were later extended to the priests at St. Jerome's Catholic Church in Weymouth, MA and St. Mary of the Nativity in Scituate, MA. Mary lived in Hingham, MA for 14 years where she enjoyed playing bridge, painting, and volunteering for South Shore Hospital. The last 2 1/2 years she lived at Eventide in Quincy, MA where she received company and comfort by their wonderful staff.
She was the beloved daughter of the late Bridget and James Crilly. She was the sister of the late Francis Crilly and Daniel Crilly, loving mother of Patty Noble of Scituate, MA, Don Dowden of Houston,TX., and the late Tinker Cunningham of New Braunfels, TX. She was the beloved grandmother of LTC James Fitzgerald, III "Trey", Ft. Hood, TX, Shannon Fitzgerald, Oklahoma City, Erin Fitzgerald Delgado, Barcelona, Spain, Melissa Christon, Dallas, TX, and Heather Caldwell of Meridian, MS. She adored her nine great grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at 10 am in St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent St., Scituate Harbor. Visiting hours Wednesday, July 20 from 4-7 pm in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 1 Summer St. (directly across from St. Anthony Church), Cohasset. Donations in Mary's Memory may be made to Glastonbury Abbey, 16 Hull St., Hinham, MA 02043.
