Mary Janet McCarthy, age 83, of Cohasset, passed away on December 22, 2014 at the Pat Roche Hospice Home in Hingham. She was the beloved wife of the late John P. "Jack" McCarthy. She is survived by her sister Anne Hayden of Daytona Beach, FL. and brother, Fred Delay of Hingham.  She was a devoted mother of two children, daughter Patricia Maynard of Antrim, NH and son Jeff McCarthy of Portland, ME.  Mary was a wonderful grandmother to Jessica Hanson, Nathaniel Maynard, Jacob Maynard, Hannah Maynard, and Morrigan McCarthy, and a great-grandmother to Cate, Abby, Colby, Anna, and Owen.

Mrs. McCarthy was a graduate of Jeanne d'Arc Academy and attended Emmanuel College and the Catherine Gibbs School.  Mary worked for years at the Cohasset Colonial Pharmacy and enjoyed summers at Sandy Beach with many of her close friends. Throughout her life she volunteered her time generously to local charities, including most recently the Senior Shuttle, Atlantic Symphony, Pine Street Inn, and Meals on Wheels. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014 at 11 o'clock in the morning at St. Anthony Church, Cohasset. Visiting hours immediately prior to the Funeral Mass on Saturday, Dec. 27 from 10-11 am in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 160 South Main St. (across from St. Anthony Church), Cohasset. Interment Holy Family Cemetery, Rockland.
