Mary "Pearl" Levanchy, 86, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on November 24, 2011.

Born December 14th, 1924 in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, Pearl was the daughter of the late Mary Stella and Charles Joseph Poirier.  She was raised in Jamaica Plain and was the oldest in a family of ten.  She was the sister of Christina McGrath-Sprague, Ronald Poirier, Mary Carey and Joanne "Susie" Deleti.  She is predeceased by Sisters Evelyn Poirier and Florence Imparato and Brothers Charles Poirier, William Poirier and Joseph Poirier.

She met her husband, the late Charles M. Levanchy while growing up in Jamaica Plain.  Married for 67 years and raising a family of 8 children, they began their life and family together in the Boston area before moving to Troy, NY.  After a short time there they moved to Wayland, MA and then on to Summit, NJ where she lived for 9 years.  From there, they settled in Scituate where she resided for 42 years.  She had a great love for the ocean and always enjoyed her summers at Minot Beach in Scituate with her family.  She had many fond memories of the Jersey shore as well.  She also spent time during the winter in Naples, FL where again she loved spending time at the beautiful beaches there, especially when her children and grandchildren would visit.  For many years she also enjoyed the Tuesday morning ladies bowling league at the Satuit Bowlaway.

Pearl's true love was her children and her grandchildren and most recently her great grandchildren.  She was always happiest and got the most enjoyment when surrounded by her family.  From her teenage years with her youngest siblings until the day she passed, she defined the word Mother.  She will be sorely missed by all those who knew her, but her generous and caring spirit will live on in our hearts forever.

Pearl is survived by her daughter Mary Solari and her husband Joe  of Cape Coral, FL; son Charles and his wife Helen of Costa Rica; daughter Barbara Hajny of Redmond, WA; daughter Marie Mazzeo and her husband Chris of Norwell, MA; daughter Cathy Moore and her husband Bill of Hanover, MA; son John and his wife Nancy of Scituate, MA; daughter Carol Yaklich and her husband Phil of Duvall, WA, daughter Karen Frazier Walsh and her husband David of Melbourne, Australia, granddaughter Catherine Mafcher of Savannah, GA and granddaughter Susan Stone of Scituate, MA.  She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to also acknowledge all of the people who helped care for Pearl and Charlie over the last few years - Kristen, Lenett, Lezett, Dina, Melissa and Laura.  Because of your care, you made the last few years of their life so much more meaningful and enjoyable.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday November 29th at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent St, Scituate Harbor.  Visiting hours will be held Monday, Nov. 28 4-8 PM in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, One Summer St, (across from At. Anthony Church) Cohasset.
