It is with deep love that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Maureen O’Leary. She died peacefully at home at the age of 85, surrounded by the family and friends she cherished so dearly.
Born in Brighton, MA, to an Irish policeman and a German midwife mother, she was the youngest of nine children. She was raised to be independent and resourceful. She graduated from Saint Columbkille High school. She met the love of her life, Arthur O’Leary, at a dance in Boston. Her witty Saint Patrick’s Day card (with a handwritten map to her house) sparked the love affair of the century! Together, they ventured out of the city to begin 65 years of wedded bliss in the seaside town of Cohasset.
She devoted her life to her family, raising six children with unwavering love, patience and dedication. Her home was always a place of comfort, laughter and WELCOME. No one ever left hungry and everyone was treated like family.
A gifted homemaker, Maureen expressed her love through countless acts of care. She knit beautiful sweaters, blankets and socks for friends, family and her medical team. She lovingly sewed clothes for her children when they were young.
Her kitchen was the heart of her home, where she prepared and cooked meals that brought family and friends around the table. Maureen was especially proud of her enormous garden, which flourished under her attentive care. Spring to Autumn, she found joy in planting, nurturing and sharing the fruits of her labor. Her garden reflected her spirit-vibrant, generous and full of life.
Faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a devoted member of Saint Anthony’s parish, where she found fellowship and purpose. Through her years of volunteer service, she quietly gave her time and talents to help others, never seeking recognition, but always willing to lend a hand. Her kindness touched many lives and left a lasting impression to all who knew her.
She was also a voracious fan of all New England sports. She could recall decades of unforgettable moments, legendary players and dramatic victories, as if they happened yesterday.
She treasured her friendships and made close connections throughout her life. Her gentle wisdom, quick smile and compassionate heart made her a beloved wife, mother, friend and neighbor. Above all, she will be remembered for her limitless love of her family, her generous spirit and her remarkable ability to make every person feel valued and cared for. She is survived by her husband Arthur O’Leary, her children, Brian, Paul, Anne, Maureen, Elizabeth and Terrence. Her daughter in laws, Brenda and Susan O’Leary. Her son in laws, David Burke, Armenio O’Campos and Nathaniel Milner. Her grandchildren: Paul, Timothy, Kyle, Derek, David, Quinn, Patrick, Andrew, Reilly, Bridget, Joshua, Anna, Misty, Henry, Autumn, Huckleberry, Sky and Sage. Her special angels, Chrissy Hooley Brady and Donald O’Leary.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please spend time with a senior citizen. A simple conversation, smile and friendly visit can brighten their week, ease their loneliness and remind them, that they are valued and remembered. It will have such a meaningful impact and our mother will be smiling down and LOVE it!
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 from 4-7pm at the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home-1 Summer Street, Cohasset. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, June 11th, 2026- 11:00 am at St. Anthony's Church, Cohasset, MA. Relatives and friends invited to attend. Interment will be held at Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy, MA.
