Maurice P. "Moe" Foley, Jr. age 83, of Scituate, passed away unexpectedly on September 14, 2013 at his daughter's home. Husband of the late Elinor M. (Sullivan). He also enjoyed many years with his dearest friend and fiancé, Mary Crowley. He was blessed with three wonderful daughters; Siobhan E. Foley of Scituate, Meave Foley Fontes and her husband Manuel of Pembroke, and Deirdre Foley Stiles and husband Dennis of Summit Hill, GA. He is also survived by nine beloved grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Born and raised in South Boston, he was the son of Maurice P., Sr and Mary R. "O'Neil" Foley. He was a graduate of South Boston High School, Class of 1947. He entered into the US Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of Boston College; he earned a Master's in Education from Boston State College and a Masters of Art in History from Boston University. He taught four years at Newman Prep School and then in 1961 began 21 years of teaching at Boston State College. In 1982, he was reassigned to Massasoit Community College, retiring in 1994. Moe was a member of the George H. Mealy Post, Cohasset. "He lived as if he were to die tomorrow, and he learned as if he were to live forever".
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013 at 10 am in St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent St., Scituate Harbor. Visiting hours Monday, Sept. 16, 2013 from 4-8 pm in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 1 Summer St. (across from St. Anthony Church), Cohasset, MA. 02025. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, Kingston. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Moe may be made to the American Alzheimers Assoc., 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA. 02472.
