Obituary

Muriel Ellen (Shea) McArdle, a beloved wife, mother, aunt, sister and grandmother, 89, of Scituate, Massachusetts, passed away on June 9, 2025, at Pat Roche Hospice Home in Hingham.

Muriel, known as Mimi to those closest to her, was born and proudly raised in Dorchester, where she graduated from St. Gregory's High School. She retired from the National Fire Protection Association in Quincy after a career as a technical content editor. Muriel was a devout Catholic and active member of the church who served as a Sunday School teacher. She was dedicated to her family and will be greatly missed for her grace, quiet strength, and fierce loyalty.

Muriel lived much of her life in Scituate with her late husband of 50 years, Thomas E. McArdle Sr., who passed away in November 2008. The couple married on May 2, 1959, and moved to Third Cliff in Scituate, where they raised three children and spent their lives enjoying time at Peggotty Beach, following the Boston Red Sox to spring training, and vacationing in Naples, Florida. For many years, Muriel was a member of the "Nine Holers," a women's golf league at Scituate Country Club.

She is survived by her two daughters Patricia and Jean Marie, son Thomas Jr.; sons-in-law John Burke and Robert Beane, daughter-in-law Susan; and seven grandchildren: Kelly, Matthew, Andrew, Bobby, Thomas III, Nolan and Cameron; her brother-in-law, Jay McArdle; nieces and nephews Mary Ellen Horan, Julie Lennon, Kathleen Stevenson, Nancy Cummings, John, Jimmy and Eddie Page, Maureen Drinkwater and Edward Shea, as well as grandnieces and nephews Molly, Teddy, and Paul. Muriel is predeceased by her parents, Edward and Julia Shea, sister Ruth N. Page, brother Edward Shea, niece Marion Nartort, nephews Bobby Page and Paul Harrigan, brother-in-law John Shields, and sisters-in-law Marie Harrigan, Joanne Lennon, Kathleen McArdle and brother-in-law Paul Harrigan Sr.

Muriel found great joy in watching her family grow over the years and seeing the successes of her loved ones. Her grandchildren will always remember her sitting by her pool in Scituate, drinking raspberry ginger ale in her favorite chair, and celebrating birthdays and holidays on the beach, enjoying a lobster roll.

Family and friends will honor and remember Muriel's life during visiting hours at McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 1 Summer Street, Cohasset, MA, on Saturday, June 14th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.  Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's of the Nativity, 1 Kent Street, Scituate, MA, on Monday, June 16th at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Meeting House Lane, Scituate.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pat Roche Hospice Home in Hingham, MA or Scituate Etrusco Associates.
