Obituary
Nancy Scripture Garrison, 85, writer and graphic designer, died at her home in Cohasset on Sunday April 5, 2015. She was the widow of the late Frederick Garrison. She leaves three children: Timothy P. Garrison of Natick, MA and Jackson, NH, Anne Garrison and her husband, David Hewitt of San Diego, CA, and Frederick R. Garrison and his wife Teri-Beth of Jericho, VT. She was predeceased by her daughter Gay Garrison of Ithaca NY. Nancy is also survived by10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Nancy's ashes will be scattered at sea in a private family remembrance. A reception for Nancy's friends will be held this coming summer at her home.
Nancy Garrison was born in Boston, the daughter of Ralph E. and Helen (Eglee) Scripture, and grew up in Cohasset. She graduated from Abbot Academy, Andover, in 1947, from Briarcliff Junior College in 1949 and received a BA in English, summa cum laude from Curry College in 1994, at age 64. In 1996 she received an MA in Liberal Studies from Simmons College with a concentration in American History. Following her graduation from Simmons, Nancy returned to Curry College as a guest lecturer in Women's Studies. In 1999, her Civil War history, "With Courage and Delicacy" was published.
Nancy Garrison was active in her community, and a supporter of the arts. She served the South Shore Art Center as an Advisor, the South Shore Conservatory as an Overseer and the Cohasset Garden Club as a member of its Board of Directors. She was also a longtime Board member of The Ladies Dog Club and the Golden Retriever Club of America, a member of the Cohasset Historical Society and the Cohasset Committee on Town History.
