Norman Swain, 82, of Scituate, passed away suddenly on March 5, 2026. Born and raised in Norwell, he was the son of the late Norman and Evelyn (Johnson) Swain.
Norman was a hardworking professional painter who proudly owned and operated his own painting company for many years. He took great pride in his craft and in the relationships he built through his work, earning the respect and friendship of many throughout the community. Through his work, Norman formed lifelong friendships that meant a great deal to him.
Norman loved the New England Patriots and the game of golf. Whether on the course or with family and friends, he was always ready with a story, a joke, or a laugh. He had a way of lightening the mood in any situation and could always be counted on to lift those around him. He had the biggest heart and was known for making everyone feel welcomed, seen, and loved. His hugs were warm, genuine, and the kind that made people feel instantly at home. Known affectionately by many as Norm, “Stormin’ Norman,” Uncle Normy, and Grampy, he brought laughter, joy, and life wherever he went.
He spent many memorable years on Nantucket, Massachusetts, a place he loved dearly and where he always felt he truly belonged. In later years, he also enjoyed spending time in Naples, Florida.
Norman is survived by his six daughters: Tracy Swain, Robin Violandi, Danielle Swain, Khrystyne Swain, Wesley Swain, and Whitney Swain; his siblings Robert, John, Janet Atone, and Tina Ruediger; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Norman will be remembered for his deep love of family, his humor that could brighten any room, and his ability to bring people together. Known as the life of the party, he was truly one of a kind and a legend to those who knew him. His larger-than-life presence, generous heart, affectionate hugs, and warm smile will be deeply missed. Nothing will ever fill the space he leaves behind, but the love he shared and the joy he brought will live on forever in the hearts of his daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and many friends.
To anyone who knew Norman, a good laugh, a good story, and a good time were never far away. The world was simply brighter, happier, and more fun with him in it, and his one-of-a-kind spirit will never be forgotten.
A celebration of Norman’s life will be held at the American Legion in Cohasset on Sunday, May 31st 2:00-6:00pm.
