Norman W. Vail, age 69, of Wareham, formerly of Norwell, died suddenly on May 20, 2010. He was born in Allston, Ma. and grew up in Norwell, Ma., the son of the late Norman F. and Pauline (Wentworth) Vail. He was educated at Norwell High School and graduated with a chemical engineering degree from Northeastern University in Boston. Norm married Susan (Rich) on October 9, 1965. They started their family in Norwell, Ma. Norm was employed at Dupont, then Polaroid as a chemical engineer. He then started his own business with his wife called Avail Appliance Service. They ran a successful business for 20 years. Norm was very well known across many of the South Shore communities from his long time business and onsite customer visits. Norm was active in the St. Mary's Parish in Hanover as a lector, as well as his current church, St. Patrick's in Wareham. He was an active member of his community in Norwell as he was a member of the Jaycees, the capital budget committee, and also involved in most town meetings. He was an avid boater who spent most of his free time on the sea. Anyone who knows Norm will know the history of his "boats". Norm's sense of humor was one of a kind and everyone who knew him truly appreciated it. He was a unique, special, loving man that made this world a better place. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather to a family that will miss him beyond words and a friend to all who knew him.
Norm was the beloved husband Susan (Rich), and loving father of Norman D. Vail, Jr. and wife, Karen of Chicago, Il., Kenneth A. Vail of Austin, TX. , and Deborah Egan and husband Shawn of Waltham. He was the brother of Linda Dudley and husband Sam of Hanson, Ma. He is also survived by two grandchildren: Molly Egan, and Abigail Egan, as well as his third grandchild on the way from his son Norm and wife Karen. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins that loved him.
Visiting hours
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, May 23, 2010 from 2-6 pm at McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 30 Central St. (off Rt. 123 near State Police Barracks), Norwell Center.
Service Information
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 24, 2010 at 11 am in St. Joseph the Worker Church, 1 Maquan St., Hanson, MA.
Interment Washington Street Cemetery, Norwell.
