Norman Wright passed away peacefully October 12, 2024. He was 90 years old.
Normie, Norm, Dad, Papa, was a generous spirit. He always thought of others before himself. Norman was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. President and CEO of Mahoney and Wright Insurance, Norman leaves a big wake in his absence.
A successful athlete at a young age, it's easy to find stories written about Norm from his Weymouth High School experience through his college years at Tufts University. Football, basketball, and track were his early pursuits and he was a member of both State and South Shore Championship teams in all three sports. He was named to the Weymouth Hall of fame, All American in football while at Weymouth High School, and a Small College All American in football at Tufts, where he was also a three-sport athlete. He was also sought after by several NFL teams. Later, he became a successful golfer as a member of both the Cohasset, MA and Amelia Island, FL golf clubs.
After graduating from Tufts University in 1957, Norman served as a Lieutenant in the United States Air Force in Misawa, Japan from 1958-1960. Upon returning to civilian life, he joined his father-in-law, Joseph W. Mahoney and they grew a successful insurance agency, Mahoney and Wright Insurance Agency in eastern Massachusetts employing 155 people.
Norman served the town of Weymouth, MA as a town meeting member for 12 years on various committees, and he was a director for 40 years at the Weymouth Cooperative Bank. Norman had several charities he cared deeply about.
Husband to his high school sweetheart, Mary-Jane (Mahoney) Wright, father to Martha Jane Wright Lee, JoAnn Wright Scott (husband David B. Scott), Sally Lucy Wright (husband Stephen E. Lee), Joseph N. Wright, deceased, and Penelope Wright Nelson (husband Andrew O. Nelson), Son of Robert Wright and Velma (Foley) Wright, both deceased, brother to Shirley Contrino, deceased, Elizabeth Turner, deceased, Margaret Birmingham, deceased, Lorraine Zona, deceased, and Dorothy Taurasi. Norman leaves behind ten grandchildren and their partners, seven great-grandchildren, and several beloved nieces and nephews.
A private service was held.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Special Olympics or the St. Labre Indian School would be greatly appreciated.
