Patience Garrick Towle, 79, died peacefully with her husband, Rick and son, Garrick by her side.
She was the daughter of Nathan H. Garrick, Jr, and Velda Mae (Poeton). Patience had a knack for timing, as she was born on November 23, 1946, the day of the Harvard Yale game, as mum and dad had to rush from the stadium. She spent her early years in Boston where she attended the Park School. She and her Granny Garrick spent many wonderful days visiting the many cultural events in Boston. Several years later the family moved to Scituate, where she went to school and then on to Thayer Academy. Green Mountain College was her next stop, followed by a brief stint at BU. Being a wild child of the 60s, she headed to St. Thomas Virgin Islands to experience commune life. This was followed by a few years in Newport, RI, waitressing at The Black Pearl.
The real world called so an apartment in Boston and a job at State Street Bank & Trust was next. A weekend visit with her dad at Cohasset Golf Club was where she met Rick and the rest was history. Married on June 11, 1972, she worked as an estate and trust paralegal at Goodwin Proctor and then Choate, Hall and Stewart. Garrick came along in 1980, a few more years of work and then “retirement” in 1986.
Patience always had a great love of libraries, working in the Pierce Memorial Library in North Scituate as a young girl. She joined the Paul Pratt Memorial Library Board of Trustees in 1993 and became President several years later. Her and the Board’s greatest achievement was the moving of the library from its original site on South Main Street to the renovated Joseph Osgood School. Construction began in early 2002 with the grand opening in March 2003. She received a Proclamation at Town Meeting in 2015 upon her retirement from the Board.
Patience was a long-time member of Cohasset Discussion Club. She enjoyed all puzzles and games, played duplicate bridge with several groups and enjoyed Mexican Train with her close friends every Thursday.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Life Care Center in Scituate for their dedicated and loving care. We would also like to thank the passionate and caring hospice professionals at Croi Health. Donations in her memory may be made to Paul Pratt Memorial Library at cohassetlibrary.org/ or the Scituate Animal Shelter at scituateanimalshelter.org/
A celebration of Life will be scheduled in early May.
