IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patricia G.
(Glennon) Mccarthy
September 5, 1935 – June 8, 2025
Patricia G. McCarthy, 89, of Scituate, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on June 8, 2025. She leaves her daughter Maryellen and husband Jonathan Rogers of Scituate, Massachusetts and son Andrew McCarthy of Newport, Rhode Island. Predeceased by her beloved husband Gerald, with whom she shared almost 40 years of marriage and much adored son Christopher. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Helen (Barrett) Glennon. In addition to her parents, Pat was predeceased by her younger brother Thomas Jr.
Pat was a proud graduate of Regis College where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English. It is here that she made life-long friends and memories that she fondly shared with others throughout the years. Pat taught English in many towns within the state of Massachusetts and ended up with a long career in Scituate. She was a maternal figure to countless children, and her classroom was always a safe haven for students who needed a place to belong.
Pat was very active in being a role model for the youth of her community. She happily led any group that her children invested an interest in – Brownies, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Hatherly Country Club Junior Golf Program and Catechism Class.
An avid reader – a book a day was certainly not unheard of. Always ready for a book discussion or political debate she was not at all shy about her views. Pat proudly stood up for the causes that she believed in and never wavered in her beliefs. Pat was an accomplished seamstress and avid jewelry maker – her creative side truly blossomed through these pastimes. She would gladly put together a costume, hem pants or make curtains with not much more than a moment's notice. Pat enjoyed traveling with her husband both domestically and internationally – some of her favorite places were Lake Buena Vista, Naples, Hilton Head, Bermuda, Ireland, Morocco, and England – always ready to pack a suitcase and travel by plane, train or automobile to reach her destination – even including a hot air balloon adventure in Australia.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 from 5-7 PM at McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 1 Summer Street, Cohasset, Massachusetts. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at 10:30 AM at McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, Cohasset, Massachusetts.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Pat's memory can be made to The Friends of St. Frances X. Cabrini, P.O. Box 129, Scituate, MA 02066. Pat lived a faith-filled life which included 12 years in vigil to preserve her neighborhood church. She believed in Mother Cabrini's mission to help others, and her faith always remained strong. Pat's life was all about faith, family and friends.
