Patsy Kidd Rabstejnek, 89, of Cohasset, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at home with her daughter, Marley, by her side on April 26, 2026.
Born on February 2, 1937, in Davidson County, North Carolina, Patsy was the daughter of Annie Leonard Kidd and Olin Kidd. She grew up in North Carolina, attended Thomasville High School, and went on to graduate from Salem College in Winston-Salem.
In her youth, Patsy was crowned Miss Thomasville, a reflection of the grace and charm she carried throughout her life. Though she spent most of her years in New England, she never lost her elegant Southern warmth. Patsy was known for her vibrant social life, her quick laugh, and the deep friendships she maintained over decades.
Patsy began her professional career as an editor for the federal government at a military base in Yuma, Arizona. She later worked as an editor at IBM in Poughkeepsie, New York, where she met the love of her life and future husband, George J. Rabstejnek. Together, they built a life rooted in love, adventure, and shared experiences.
Patsy made her home in Cohasset, where she lived for 60 years and became a deeply engaged and valued member of the community. A passionate horticulturalist, she devoted herself to cultivating extraordinary gardens surrounding her historic 250-year-old home. Her dedication and artistry earned her gardens a place in the Smithsonian Institution Archives of American Gardens. She was a longtime member of the Garden Club of America and former president of the Cohasset Garden Club.
Patsy also served her community through her involvement with the Cohasset Conservation Committee, the Cohasset Advisory Board, and the World Affairs Council of Boston. A generous philanthropist, she supported many causes close to her heart, including Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, the Garden Club of America and Rosemary Farm Sanctuary, a horse rescue in central New York.
Known for her adventurous spirit, Patsy loved to travel and explore the world with her beloved husband, George. Together they enjoyed many international trips, including yearly visits to London and the Mill Reef Club in Antigua. She also enthusiastically traveled with her daughter, Marley, including memorable trips to China and Japan.
Patsy was the devoted wife of the late George J. Rabstejnek and a loving mother to her daughter, Marley Ann Rabstejnek and devoted mother-in-law to Marley’s husband Richard Austin. She was also a cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, George, and is survived by her daughter, Marley.
Patsy will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, adventurous spirit, and the beauty she brought into the lives of others through her friendships, community service, and extraordinary gardens.
The memorial service will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rosemary Farm Sanctuary.
